For sale is a Golf GTI Mk2 five door hatchback, in original Diamond Silver, with black/grey interior.
The car is in excellent condition. Having been resprayed at some point in its life, the finish is good with a lovely shine. My detailer has applied a ceramic coat to the paint to keep it that way! All the trim is present and correct. The car has original BBS alloys on it, which are key to the looks of the Mk2 GTI in my opinion. They are wearing four new tyres, fitted less than a month ago.
Inside, the GTI is again in great condition, which belies the age of the car and the mileage it has covered. The seats look to have had a retrim at some point in the recent past and are therefore not showing any of the usual bolster wear. All the switchgear inside works correctly, including the sunroof which, incredibly, doesn't leak!
On the road, the Golf drives as you'd expect - it starts first time (a new battery was fitted in July) and settles to a smooth idle. It warms up quickly and once warm pulls very strongly from minimal revs, but all the fun is to be had at the top end of the rev range, where the engine note hardens and the power on offer is more than enough to get down the road remarkably quickly.
I was surprised how civilised the GTI is, with a decent amount of suspension travel and cushioning in the seats taking the edge off the worst road imperfections, but the body control is otherwise tight enough to make it enjoyable to chuck down a B road when the mood takes you. It's also quiet enough to enjoy on long journeys without fatigue.
The car comes with a substantial history, including the original book pack with owners manual and service book, showing a well-cared-for car for the first years of its life, with 25 service stamps and then invoices showing works completed more recently. The car has had an oil and filter change with me. It looks to have been wax-oiled underneath in the not too distant past, which is equally reassuring.
These GTIs are rightly revered for their style and driving manners and are now very cool, enhanced by their rareness. The driving experience more than stands up to modern requirements and as a fun place to put some money where it's unlikely to lose value, these have got to be hard to beat now.
